2017 FunDraisers + Seminars

Fundraising for and learning about hurricane relief and men's health.

In light of the recent natural disaster events (such as Hurricanes Harvey, Maria, and Irma), INFORMS at the University of Michigan held a fundraiser/seminar event with speakers who highlighted interesting applications of data-driven analytics for mitigating, responding, and recovering from natural disasters. Through the efforts of our members and faculty, we donated over $900 for hurricane response efforts.

During the month of November the chapter encouraged a inter-department group of men and women to grow or make a mustache to raise money and awareness for men’s health. The month culminated in a seminar where Professor Brian Denton presented about his research on optimal prostate cancer screening . We raised $1,440 for the Movember foundation and had a team of 20 College of Engineering community members - both students and faculty. Next year it’ll be a great inter-INFORMS-chapter competition.
