INFORMS 2017 Trivia NIghts

CoE Community Grant and INFORMS Sponsored Grad Trivia Nights were a Huge Success!

INFORMS members Tom Logan, Tim Williams, and Connor Riley, hosted two trivia nights for graduate students in the University of Michigan College of Engineering (CoE).

The first trivia night (May 2017) brought together graduate students from all CoE departments and programs to build a social network prior to summer. The second (September 2017) was aimed at first-year PhD students to develop connections as they began graduate studies. It is the hope that, by meeting students in other departments, the social circles within the departments will begin to overlap and that the support groups of the COE graduate students will increase.

The trivia nights was a smashing success. We had impressive diversity in attendance, with around 80 people participating in each. The crowd was enthusiastic and everyone had a great time, with plans for new activities already starting that night.

If graduate students want to be kept in the loop with social activities, they can join our mailing list/group that we’re setting up here.

A huge thank you to the CoE Graduate Education community grants which entirely funded the evenings.

Also, thank you to INFORMS for their support with running the event, in particular, Gian Garcia and Vignesh Kesavan. Finally, many thanks to Dorian Brefort of NAME who I roped into helping and Suzanne Efremova for her help following the event.
